“Go to hell,” she whispered and hung up the phone, turning it off in the process. The tears came and she propped her head on her arms and bawled her eyes out before taking control and going into the bathroom to wash her face several times before going back out. All the time she was out there, she was praying that he would stop by and ask her to come back to his place to spend the time with him before he left, but he never came. She had no idea how she finished out the day and managed not to break down as she made her way home. Sitting in her car in the driveway, she stared off into the gathering dusk at the rose petals stirring in the breeze. They needed weeding and she was going to have to call Karl to cut the grass and do some cleaning up of the gutters before the weather changed. Her hands tightened on the wheel and she leaned back her head against the rest. He should be gone by now, probably in his fancy private jet. She closed her eyes and felt the tears leaking from her closed lids. It was not his fault that she had fallen for him. He never asked her to. He never one day made a promise to her that it was anything other than what he had said it was. A physical relationship and what was worse was that she had been the one to pursue him. She had put herself in the way constantly so that he noticed her. He had taken her to his bed because she had literally begged him to and now he was gone and probably was never coming back. Taking a deep breath, she wiped her eyes and peered into the mirror to make sure there were no traces of her sob fest. What she saw there made her cringed and she hoped fervently that her usually observant daughter would not notice the ravages. Since she had been back to school, she had been so preoccupied with schoolwork and a boy in her class by the name of Jerome that she did not notice anything else. Maxine hoped that this was the case now.
